The Canadian Air Force Base in Söllingen was a significant military installation operational from 1953 to 1993. It served as a crucial hub for Canadian forces during the Cold War and played a pivotal role in NATO's defense strategy. The base housed a variety of aircraft and units, including combat planes such as the F-104G Starfighter. Following its closure, the site was converted into the civilian Baden Airpark airport. Today, the Air Force Museum Söllingen commemorates the history and heritage of this former military facility, offering insights into the exciting era of aviation history.

Within the museum, many veterans and eyewitnesses are still actively involved, eager to vividly recount the base's eventful history.

The Story

In 1999, Herbert Lienhart (1953 - 2009), founder of the association "German Canadian Air Force Museum e.V.", set himself the task of documenting the 40-year presence of the Canadian Armed Forces at the military airfield in Söllingen and remembering it for future generations. His main concern was to preserve and continue the connections and friendships with his Canadian friends that had developed during this time.
